Manufacturer of the Year – AccuTemp Products, Inc.

This prestigious award recognizes an EFC manufacturer member that has exhibited a commitment to, and demonstrated active support of EFC, our members’ activities & programs, and the electric foodservice industry. This manufacturer must also make a significant contribution to the industry and to the improvement of kitchen operations.

AccuTemp exceeded the qualifications for this award by creating numerous opportunities for Electric Foodservice Council member utilities to demonstrate their products, and supplying them with the products to directly demonstrate to their customers. AccuTemp created numerous sales campaigns for electric utility customers to view and purchase equipment at favorable pricing. AccuTemp has been recommending to national account customers such as:  IHOP, Checkers, and others that they specify their electric products. This concept has impacted the regulation of electric equipment and set the ground work for electric becoming the standard.

Product Design of the Year – TurboChef Technologies

This distinctive award is given to a manufacturer who has introduced a unique or enhanced piece of electric foodservice equipment that advances the foodservice industry and improves productivity, efficiency, or solves other issues facing the foodservice industry.

TurboChef’s  “Tornado Oven” is one of  the most sought after and talked about cooking systems on the market  today. It is designed for operators who need quality, speed and space savings. The design employs a combination of multiple technologies (high speed forced convection heating, microwave & an infrared heating element) allowing customers to bake, broil, roast, brown and toast with unprecedented speed and throughput. The Tornado has a UL certified vent-less technology, thus eliminating costly ventilation & fire suppression systems. Also the customer friendly, programmable controls allow for consistent quality that further proves the exceptional value of this equipment to the foodservice industry.

Trade Ally of the Year – Long & Littleton, Inc – Represented by President William G. Long

This prestigious award has been designed to recognize trade allies, such as dealers, distributors, architects, manufacturers’ reps, service agents, foodservice consultants, etc. that have helped EFC utilities to promote their foodservice program.

Long and Littleton’s marketing strategy and business style is to help their customers find the best value and improve their operational performance. While representing some of the finest manufacturers such as Lang and Wells, they actively promote electric cooking equipment to their customers. Most recently Long & Littleton, proactively introduced Longhorn to their Lang electric griddle. Longhorn indicates that this is the only griddle that has ever recovered for them. They are an active MAFSI member, and a necessary and valued ally for the Electric Foodservice Council.

Utility Rep of the Year – Carlos Haiad of Southern California Edison

This very special award is to recognize outstanding utility representatives that have had a positive impact on their company’s foodservice program and the electric foodservice industry and to acknowledge their accomplishments and success.

Carlos Haiad advanced the ideals of the Electric Foodservice Council profoundly this year by getting directly involved with the development and training of energy efficient solutions. He has created and hosted several training seminars for nearly every branch of the foodservice industry including: utility customers, manufacturers, kitchen designers, code officials, large franchise owners and many more. Carlos has been an excellent advocate for electric cooking by going above the call of duty.

President’s Choice Award

This award is to recognize the exceptional foodservice individuals that have positively affected the promotion of electric foodservice. The purpose of this award is also to recognize and acknowledge outstanding contributions these individuals have made for the advancement of the foodservice industry.

- Mike Walker, PE of Southern Company
Mike Walker, Southern Company National Accounts, has the rare talent of being both technically skilled as an engineer, and the ability to consultatively communicate effectively with customers. He produced and coordinated, in the words of participating manufacturers; “the most ethical and thorough equipment challenge they have ever participated in.” Mike has been a valuable asset to the EFC in his proactive engagements with many national account customers. He has advanced our mission to a multi-utility collaborative, top down approach to electric cooking marketing.

- Mike Whitten of RepSouth, Inc.

Mike, president of RepSouth, Inc, has provided numerous opportunities for customers & utility reps to attend live demonstrations and seminars that were instrumental in partnering with EFC member utilities. This effort opened an ongoing opportunity with two large National chain customers to convert their fryer specifications from gas to electric. His marketing strategy and business style is to educate customers and provide the best possible solution. His group represents some of the finest manufacturers in the industry such as Enodis, Hatco and W.A. Brown.

Hall of Fame Award – Jim Wixson, CFSP of Georgia Power
This prestigious award is to recognize those outstanding individuals, companies or organizations that have made significant contributions to the development, growth, and advancement of the Electric Foodservice Council.

Only Four of these prestigious awards have ever been given in the eighteen year history of the Electric Foodservice Council since the organization was founded in 1987.

Jim Wixson more than deserves this prestigious award for his extensive knowledge and work in the industry. His willingness and enthusiasm for supporting and training others in the marketing of electric cooking is appreciated throughout the industry. Jim has been an active in the EFC since 1990 holding numerous officer positions including, President and presently Senior Vice President. Jim was the 1992 “Utility Rep of the Year” Award Winner. Jim is respected by all Members of the Electric Foodservice Council and the industry for his knowledge and abilities.


The Electric Foodservice Council Mission:

The Council provides education, advertising, advocacy and promotional activities in cooperation with foodservice manufacturers and trade allies to advance the foodservice industry. We work to assure a consistent industry approach to foodservice and take advantage of available synergy’s by developing partnerships, and coordinating with other industry organizations.

Prestigious Award Recipients

Every year the Electric Foodservice hosts their Excellence Breeds Excellence Awards Banquet, designed to recognize and acknowledge outstanding individuals and companies that have made significant contributions to the EFC mission and have improved or advanced the foodservice industry. The banquet was held November 7, 2005 at an up-scale Charlotte, NC restaurant, Bentley’s on 27. This year’s recipients originate from such companies as AccuTemp Products, Southern Company and TurboChef Technologies along with many prominent sales firms.
